Aiko was a very popular name in Japan in the early 1900s. It regained a lot of its popularity in the early 2000s, when princess Aiko was born, but didn't manage to re-enter the top 10.It first entered the top 10 in 1917 and fell out of the top 10 after 1932. It peaked at #4 in 1924.It is most commonly spelled 愛子 (love + child).The first element of the name, Ai 愛 (love), was also very common as a given name, especially in the 1980s and 1990s, reaching #1 several times.
