This is probably my favorite boy name. I love how unique and mystical it sounds. I’ve never met anyone with this name. Plus, this name has a history! I prefer the pronunciation of “ə-LAR-ihk,” personally.
I like the name. I think it sounds regal and sophisticated. I like the AL er ick pronunciation better than Uh LAIR ick.
Brilliant name, very medieval sounding it conjures up mental images of beautiful castles and knights on horseback. I really like it!
I am an Alaric and although I hated it as a child, as I have grown older I have also grown to love my name. I was called Alaric after HMS Alaric, a Royal Navy submarine operational in the 1950's and 60's, which my father served on. He liked the name so much he vowed to name his first son after the submarine... and here I am!
Sounds like the name of a wise, strong king. I adore it as a character name, though it's a bit out there for a real person.
My name is Alarec, pronounced "uh-LAIR-ek". I've been proud of my name, and I'm always getting compliments about it. This name should never be shortened or simplified! Why anyone would think Rick or Al or Alec or *shivers* Larry is better than Alarec/Alaric is beyond me. This name is unique, powerful, regal, historical, amazing... It should be embraced, not ruined. Most importantly, bullies simply can't find a way to make fun of it by rhyming or whatnot. Do not name anyone this if you're just going to dumb it down later. If you want a kid named Larry, name him Larry, not Alaric.
Several years ago I met a young man with this name in Hawaii, of all places. I told him I thought it was a neat name.
One of the handsomest names ever for a boy. Great meaning, and can easily be shortened to Al, Alec, Larry, Rick or Ricky.
I love this name. I just recently heard it used as the history teacher's name on the tv show The Vampire Diaries. It's such a great old sounding name!
My name is Alaric and I love having this name. Sure it was always annoying when there would be a substitute teacher in school and hear them butcher it, but it has always been a prideful thing for me. I like that I have no friends that share my name and I think that it has shaped me to be more unique and I also strive to be the best in most things I do; I suppose I need to to live up to the title of "all ruler." It is a great name that I intend to pass on if the opportunity presents itself. And I must agree that it is a terrible girl's name!
Alaric seems like a very strong and masculine name, but I don't think it would suit any person. "Ruler of all" can maybe be too much for a kid to bear.
This is my actual name. People can never seem to pronounce it right. =/
I've seen this name on a teenage girl on MTV a year ago or so. It's awful on a girl, it's as simple as that. Some names aren't destined to be used as unisex names (although there IS a bunch of male names that I love on girls and vice versa).
This is a great rarely used historical name. It sounds strong and has great rhythm; Alec could be a nickname.
