The main character in the book "Go Ask Alice" is NOT called Alice! It is the diary of an annonymous teenage girl, whose name is never given, and the reason it's called "Go Ask Alice" is because there is a drug related song, "White Rabbit", that contains that line. It is also partly because of the fact that the "Alice" books by Lewis Carroll remind the heroine in one part of a drug trip - she even wonders if Carroll himself used drugs.
Incidentally, there IS a character in the book CALLED Alice, though she is a relatively minor character - a fellow addict the heroine meets on the streets.
Alice is a wonderful name. It reminds me of the characters 'Alice' from "Alice in Wonderland" (a wonderful fairytale) and "Go ask Alice" (a true and sad story).
Used in the film "Alice doesn't live here anymore", the Woody Allen film simply called "Alice", the song "Living next door to Alice" by Smokie, the album "Alice" by Tom Waits and the song "Alice" by The Sisters of Mercy.

There's a book series which is sort of a reimagining of Alice in Wonderland called the Looking Glass Wars in which it's spelt Alyss. I don't really like the name Alice for some reason but I love it if it's spelt Alyss.
This name was borne by the character Alice Hyatt. First introduced in the 1974 film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", where she was portrayed by Ellen Burstyn, who won both an Academy and BAFTA Award for the role. In 1976 the character became the central focus of an American sitcom, called simply "Alice". There, the character was portrayed by Linda Lavin. During the 9 years the series aired, the actress received 2 Golden Globe Awards and received an Emmy Award nomination.

One of the world's first set of sextuplets are born in Chicago, Illinois. (There were reported but unverified earlier births of sextuplets being born in U.S. on December 30, 1831, in Italy in 1844 and in Maine in 1847) The Bushnell family delivers six babies, three boys, Alberto, Laberto and Norberto, and three girls, Alice Elizabeth, Alincia, and Lucy. Laberto and Lucy die at birth but we believe the other four babies survived the birth. Alinica reportedly survives to age 85, dying on March 27, 1952 in Warsaw, New York. We've also seen a Guinness Book reference that claimed all six sextuplets survived at least two months.
I love this name! so sweet, delicate and yet strong. There's a character in the Rangers Apprentice series who spells it Alyss (lovely spelling) and my middle name is also the Latin variant: Alicia.

Alice is the name of the main characters in two of the best books I've read in a long time. Still Alice by Lisa Genova and Alice I Have Been by Melanie Banjamin (historical fiction based off Alice Liddell, the real life muse of Lewis Carroll). I am simply in love with the name. It's so classy and sophisticated, while fun and spirited. I plan on using it as a first or middle for a future daughter; it's also my Great Grandmother's name.
My first thought when I see or hear the name Alice is not Alice in Wonderland. I immediately think of Alyss from John Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice series. Alyss is one of my favorite characters. I also love Alice Cullen from the Twilight books.

On the childrens tv shows, "The Koala Brothers" and "Angelina Ballerina," one of the characters from each show is named Alice! My 2 year-old daughter pats her chest and says "that me name " whenever she hears the name 'Alice ' mentioned on tv. Let's not forget the childrens song " Alice the Camel " has 10 humps, go Alice, Go! It's a fun counting song with a dance that's easy to do.
Arlo Guthrie has a 10 minute long acoustic guitar song which he tells a very humorous story over entitled "Alice's Restaurant." When I hear Alice I think not "Alice in Wonderland" but rather... "You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant..."
