It sounds pretty at first, then you learn where the name comes from AND THEN you realize it has the word 'meth' in it 😭💊💉💎🗿🍆🍾.
Elegant but I can't imagine a person under 25 bearing this name.
Makes me think of purple.🟪.
This and Azure used to be my “future daughters” names when I was 10. My mind has changed since then.
I named my daughter Amathiste. So elegant!
I really like this name. The meaning is interesting. The gemstone is absolutely beautiful. I think I would use it as a middle name.
Pretty but I just cannot imagine an actual person having this as a name.
No guys, don’t ruin this name by using Amy as a nickname, Amethyst is just fine, the nickname Amy is unnecessary and they are two completely different names and Amethyst is unique, but Amy is boring (Amy is my name by the way).
It’s pretty!
I absolutely adore this name. Since my favorite color is purple, I have a soft spot for all names associated with the color. Not to mention, that it has a nice ring to it. One of the coolest names.
I actually really like this name. The only part that turns me off a bit is the 'meth' part cause a kid might get bullied about that by some immature kids.
Personally, Amethyst is not only my favorite gemstone name, but one of my favorite names, in general. I think it is just incredibly gorgeous. It's beautiful yet undeniably strong at the same time. It's a stunning regal color, has a lovely meaning and awesome sound. I love everything about this name. (Plus, I was born in February, so that's all the more reason for me to love this name!)God bless you ❤️.
Possibly one of the prettiest names ever? It's not everyday you hear about someone named Amethyst. Plus, the meaning attracts my attention. I don't think most people would mind the "Meth" part unless they're an immature middle schooler or someone of that kind.
My daughter’s name is Amethyst and we used to call her Meth/Methy for short but she started getting teased when she got to middle school so now she uses a different spelling; Amythist. We sometimes call her Amy.
Amethyst is my birthstone, and it's the color purple, one of my favorite colors. But I don't think I'd ever use it. It's a very pretty name. Although one negative thing is that it has "meth" in it, but I think it's a beautiful name, and I don't think many people would notice or care about that.
So pretty!
This name sounds very Steven Universe to me. It's very pretty, it just conjures up images of Steven Universe.
A bit odd for a child, but not awful. The gemstone is beautiful, though.
When I have a kid, this will be her name, or Nyx or Caprice... those are cute too.
I love how uncommon this name is. I also love the nicknames Ami or Amy for short form.
It's an amazing name, the only bad thing about it is the meaning.
Well we have to give this name credit for an interesting meaning, to say the least! Jokes aside, it's an intriguing name with a hint of mystique and a unique rhythm. Despite the positives, personally it's a bit excessive and regal for me.
Amethysts are gorgeous gemstones, and I like the nickname Amy.
I used to adore this name. There is something mystical and beautiful about it. But then someone pointed out that it has the word METH in it. And I haven't been able to look at it the same way since. =(
My name is Amethyst. I often go by the nickname Ami (Ammie) I haven’t personally met someone else with the same name as me. So it’s cool. I feel really special! The first reference I’ve had is one of the professors at the university I want to go to wrote a sci-fi series and one of the characters was named Amethyst. That was cool. It’s the only experience I’ve had so far regarding “someone” else with my name.
I really like the name since I always planned to have a daughter one day. After a while I decided to go with Ametista which is the Italian variant of this name but I still love it especially since it’s my birthstone and I believe that it’s best to have a unique name to make a person stand out to other people or kids.
Such a beautiful name that I had to give it to my daughter, Amethyst Zen, my little groundhog's day baby. My little Ammie is every bit as precious as her name and birthstone.
My name is Amethyst! I think it's a great name for various reasons, like my favorite color is amethyst purple. For one thing whenever I meet a new person, generally adults tend to say this, they say: "That's a beautiful name." or "What a wonderful name you have", or something along those lines. Then they ask me whether my birthstone is amethyst and it's not... It's rare and I haven't met another Amethyst personally before in my life, it makes me feel really unique, you know?I've read the other comments and they said things about nicknames being "Amey" or "Amy". However, I've never been called that, everyone calls me "Ammy". I've been called "Klippy" before (Afrikaans for pebble), or just "Am".Another thing that I find really amusing is that LOADS of people spell my name wrong, or don't know how to spell it and have to ask me. Amethyst is a great name for someone if you really want them to be proud of their name and get lots of compliments for it.
So exotic! I have met a girl called Amethyst who went by 'Amey', and felt her name was beautiful. I agree with her, one hundred percent :) Amethysts are purple (purple used to represent royal) shining gems, worth hundreds. Imagine growing up, knowing you were named after something like that? It would be awesome.
The origin is fairly amusing. I was first put off by the '-thyst' ending, just because it sounds a bit odd frankly, however it's still very beautiful and I quickly got over it.
I think naming a child after a gemstone is perfectly good. Every time you say their name you will be reminded of shining, colourful things.
I think this name is absolutely hideous and I am glad it is not popular.
Considering it's my birthstone, I do kind of like it. However, it's a bit of a mouthful, and the meaning is just plain hilarious. "Not drunk". I seriously almost fell out of my chair laughing at that. Plus, I can't help but wonder how ironic it'd be if a girl called Amethyst was an alcoholic.
No offence, but personally I don't understand people who name their children after things. Stones, in this case. Name your other kids Diamond, Sapphire and Ruby, and you have a fine jewellery set.
I think this name has a kind of mythical beauty, though it's meaning is kind of funny.
Since the Amethyst happens to be my birthstone, I think it sounds lovely as a name. The name might be a little "out there", but on the right person, it could probably work very well.
I think this is a name that is as beautiful as its gemstone.
I like the gemstone Amethyst, the color purple, and the name Amethyst. This name is just great!
Exotic. :) And I love the color purple.
I love this name, it's pretty and exotic sounding.
I love this name, it's so exotic.
As girls tend to do, I have thought about what I would name my children since I was young. I thought of this name when I was in high school and still really like it (8 years later). The precious stone is such a beautiful purple and my favorite jewel. I also thought that she can be called "Amey" for short (with the "a" sounding like that in "apple").
This is one of my nicknames. I don't know why Nate calls me this sometimes but he does.
