As the feminine of Amir it means "treetop".
But the literal meaning of "Amira" is "saying", "speech", "utterance", and so it could also be taken to mean something like "eloquent".

It's a pretty and uncommon name.
What annoys me a little is that AMIRA is the abbreviation of the Australian Mineral Industries Research Association. But that wouldn't be a problem outside Oz.

I really like this name! When I hear it I think of amore (love in Italian). My only concern with this name is how similar it sounds to "a mirror". I'm not sure if kids would find this sound similarity something to make fun of or not.
