"Ascent" or "Upward Progress" from the Greek οδος with the prefix αν. Used by Plato to refer to enlightenment. Anodos is the central character in the George Macdonald novel "Phantastes". The name was also used as a pseudonym by author and poet Mary Elizabeth Coleridge.
