"Anselma" is a song written by César Suedan and Guadalupe Trigo, produced by T-Bone Burnett and Steve Berlin, and performed by American band Los Lobos for their EP...And a Time to Dance in 1983. The song earned the first Grammy Award for Best Mexican/Mexican-American Performance at the 26th Grammy Awards.
This is my daughter's name and it is her 2nd great grandmother's name as well the antique and cultural now just impresses me even more.
As an owner of this name I pronounce it as un-sel-muh.
I think this is a strange, quirky and unusual girls' name; quite usable though, I think; better used as a middle than a first name. :)
The German pronunciation is ahn-ZEL-mah. [noted -ed]
I adore the boy's name "Anselm", but the girl's version sounds too much like "Aunt Selma". Just add "dear old" before this name and you see my problem with it.
