User comments for Antiope (Meaning / History Only)

ωψ or οψ (pronounced "ops") in ancient Greek has also the meaning of the looking of a face (όψις (opsis)) and also the meaning of the "eye". So the meaning of "Anti-ope" is "she who looks at the other (opposite) side" or "she who her face is not shown because she has her face turned to the other (opposite) side".

Antiope was used as a name for the dark -the other- side of the moon.
