Aelia Ariadne (Greek: Ἀριάδνη) (c. 450 – 515) was Eastern Roman empress as the wife of Zeno and Anastasius I. She is venerated as a saint in the Eastern Orthodox Church, with her feast day falling on August 22. She probably added "Aelia" to her name at her proclamation as an Augusta. The name had become standard for Augustas of the Theodosian dynasty.

The above Nietzsche quote is likely why the name Ariadne was chosen for the dream architect in "Inception" (2010). Frankly, given that it's such an exotic name, I thought it fit in quite well in the modern world. It's a lovely name.
