Armida (29 May 1911 – 23 October 1989) was a Mexican actress, singer, dancer and vaudevillian who appeared in 35 Hollywood B-movies between 1927 and 1951.
My name is Armida I was born in the 90s. Growing up I had a tough time accepting my name because everyone else had more common normal names in school. However, I grew to appreciate my name in my teen years because it made me unique amongst the rest of the class. When I entered the work force many adults loved my name and I get compliments all the time. I love my name. My mom also has the same name. We pronounce it AR - Mee - Duh. Nicknames I've had Mida or Armi. Mimi is also a cute option. I'm grateful I have such a unique name.
This name appears pretty rare. Official stats by the Spanish National Statistics Institute show that there are only 48 women in Spain with this name. It may be used in other Spanish-speaking countries, so I don't want to make a concrete statement on this. It would be interesting to see what other people have to say about this. [noted -ed]
Had a next door neighbour called Armida. Later on I found out it came from Tasso's poem and also the subject of many operas the most prominent being Lully, Gluck, Rossini and Dvorak. Probably derived from the Arab name 'Amida'.

Armida is the main villainess in Handel's opera "Rinaldo."
