Ashanti was indeed the name of a group of Afghan chieftains who created a state (small country) in the 17th Century in the area of Ghana in Africa: known as the Ashanti Empire.Ashanti is however, from the French word: Enchante which means: Enchanting, Enchanted, Charming, Captivating. And although Anglicized in its pronunciation now: Ashanti, it can be pronounced Enchantè (with a light sound on "en" at the beginning that makes it almost sound like "an", with the "ch" having a typical "sh" sound, and a long "ee" sound at the end).
