Well I have a male schoolmate called Asia. So that means it can be masculine also.

In muslim countries Asia is a very common name. Girls are named this name because according to Islamic History Pharaos' wife who saved and adopted prophet Moses was called Asia/Asiya/Asiyah/Aasia/Aasiyah etc. However, in the Biblical tradition she is described as Pharao's daughter and called Bithiya. So many of the girls that are called Asia are not named after a continent. But most probably some are named after the continent as well and I don't understand what the problem is with doing that. The name Eden/Aden is also very common, which is a garden in Paradise. It is quite common to name children after places, mountains, gardens etc...
