Aslan

I think this is such a strong, badass name; boy or girl, first or middle name. If I were in school and knew a kid named Aslan, I would think they were the coolest kid in school. I strongly disagree with those saying that it's a good name for a pet but not a person. They just don't know anyone cool enough to rock it. I would hands-down name my kid Aslan.

Love this name! I've been obsessed with names my whole life and gave my dogs middle names! This was my dog George's middle name because his fur was the color of a lion and I loved The Chronicles of Narnia. George will always and forever have a lasting impression on me and I definitely would use it as a name or maybe a middle name.

My grandson is named Aslan. He loves his name, and always feels special because of it. He is never teased about it and is proud to be called Aslan. He loves lions and is 12 years old.

Aslan is the name of the lion in Chronicles of Narnia, so it would be weird on an actual person. It's nice for a pet though.

Per usual, I agree with kayisforkeen. This would make for an awesome name of a beloved pet lion! Be a great homage to the original Aslan dude in those kids books I never actually got around to reading.

Personally, I love this name. I've never read C.S. Lewis's 'Chronicles of Narnia', so I have no problem using Aslan as a given name. It should also be noted that it's a very popular name among the real-life Caucasians (i.e. Chechens, Ingush, Circassians, etc…) and Turkic peoples, so the pop culture reference doesn't faze me. Aslan is a wonderful name, and if I had a son, using this name wouldn't be outside my boundaries.

Three years ago I rescued a beautiful Golden Retriever puppy. He was found on the street wandering and hungry. I brought him home and he was so frightened he wouldn't fall asleep until we reassured him that he was safe and well loved. I named him "Aslan" not only did it "feel" right, it is a name I truly love as I am a huge C.S. Lewis fan. This dog is such a blessing to me. My husband of 32 years had just died and then Aslan came into my life. I really think God was trying to console me in my grief. We needed each other.

I loved the name Aslan, it was actually the only name my husband and I could agree on for our little girl. Although we did change the spelling the name is still just as beautiful.

I loved the Chronicles of Narnia as a child, and I always picture the large, majestic lion when I hear this name. I love it, though I can't really picture it on a person, ha ha.

Actually, if I hadn't had the name I have now, I would have been named Aslan and I'm a female :P But I already have a unusual name, so Aslan wouldn't have been any weirder.

This was my mother's maiden name. I think Aslan and U/Osama make much better alternatives to the more common Leo. Although, I guess in America, naming your child Osama wouldn't be the best idea...

I knew a little girl once named Aslan. Not entirely sure what her parents were thinking. Sure, there are worse associations to have, but a girl with a guy's name? Really?

Really. It's only a male name in some countries. Perhaps her parents were thinking the very same thing that I was thinking when I named my daughter Aslan. What a beautiful name!

I think it's really cool that Aslan means 'lion'! It is very fitting, then, that C. S. Lewis used the name for his character. Aslan the Lion is one of my favorite characters in all of literature. (I think that might be because he represents Jesus Christ. =))

I like this name, but I'd never use it because Aslan from Chronicles of Narnia represents Jesus Christ, and because of that the name seems sacred to me.

I agree with Pippin. (Plus, if I actually called my child Aslan he would be teased ENDLESSLY).

I love this name. It's strong and short, but still uncommon.
