Avram was the name of Abraham before god gave him the letter H (or in Hebrew "hey" "ä", the fifth letter in Hebrew and one of the names of god himself). Changing Avram to Avraham has a lot of magnitude, and it represents the connection between god, Abraham and Abraham's children.
