Faroese feminine form of Benedict (originally a short form of Benadikta and Bænadikta, now regarded as an independent name). It was borne by Beinta Broberg (1667-1752), whom Faroese writer Jørgen-Frantz Jacobsen allegedly used as the basis for the heroine of his novel Barbara (1939).
