It comes from the Old English Brycgstow, 'the place on the bridge'. It's also London rhyming slang for breast (from Bristol City - titty), as in 'a lovely pair of bristols'. Neither of these meanings makes me think it would be a good idea to use this as a name. As the other poster said, if you like the sound of it, why not just use Crystal?
