I don’t understand how people could think this name is ugly or unappealing. Maybe it’s because they are all Americans who are pronouncing the name wrong.Butrus (and it’s other variations like Boutros), in my opinion, are very nice names when it’s pronounced the way it is in Arabic. It’s soft and simple.
Uh oh. The pronunciation does not make me feel better, sadly. Something about this name makes me dislike it...
Ugly ugly ugly!
Sounds like "Butler" to me.
I honestly don't know why this is a variant of Peter, but it isn't very attractive. It also rhymes with "citrus".
How is it related to Peter?
It sounds like some version of the name Brutus.
Ugly.
I think this name is strange. If I had this name, I would be embarrassed. (no offense if this is your name) :)
This name reminds me of a butt. Kind of a strange name....
In the English speaking country, I would advise you not to name your son or daughter Butrus, since it might lead to teasing. Some names in different countries may sound inappropriate, but you know that’s just them. I mean if you want to name your kid that, you can, but it would be cruel. It may be a nice name elsewhere. But in America, we have different circumstances. I wouldn’t name a child this unless I hated them, but I wouldn’t. I love kids so I would give them names that show I love them!
Written as "Ⲡⲉⲧⲣⲟⲥ" in the native Coptic script.
Pronunced BOOT-rəs.
"Boutros" and "Peter" both come from the Greek "Petros". Since there is no "P" sound in Arabic, "Petros" became "Butrus".
This name is mostly Coptic, meaning it is mainly used by Christians living in the Arab world. As such, 'Coptic' should be added to the usage of this name. [noted -ed]
Just saying: this sounds nothing like "Peter." Cool name, though.
