Reminds me of callous.
I think Calla is very beautiful and simple in its own right. I don’t see why it gets so much hate. If anything it’s a refreshing alternative to Lily. Callas are very lovely flowers.
Very pretty. I ran across a girl my age who lived in a dorm with that name. Pretty flower too, one of my favorites.
HELLO. MY NAME IS CALLA AND I HAVE VERY STRONG OPINIONS ON THIS NAME. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL NAME, AND IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE BRAINLESS STINKY POOPS SAYING OTHERWISE I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND EAT YOUR LIVER! See, Calla's are very nice! :) I think my name is pretty! It is based off of a flower and means beauty and Greek! So to all you Emily's and Mackaleighahshsqgws saying my name sucks... I have no words for you! And if this does not change your mind I will guilt trip you with the knowledge that I was named after my great grandma who is DEAD!
Wow, I'm in love with this name. It both looks and sounds beautiful and sophisticated. It's also simple enough but not too common, and would suit women of any age.
My name is Calla and I love it. Whenever I get introduced to someone they always say "Calla, that's pretty." and usually they ask how to spell it. Calla is my full name and sometimes people ask me if it is my full name or just a nn. As someone else also meantioned, some people say Kayla? And I usually say Calla as in California or supercalifragilistic... lol. Anyways I think it is a beautiful name and I've only ever met one other Calla before. The nicknames are also pretty cute too, like Cal Cal, Callie/Cally, Cal, or I have even seen Allie/Ally as a nn. I just go by Calla but some people call me Cal like my parents or close friends.
Disgusting. You don't have to agree with me but they're always so annoying and loud. They are very sensitive.
Lovely name.
Soft, sweet, pretty name. I like that it is a flower as well:) It's beautiful and the meaning goes well too. It's the perfect name, and also like Celeste.
Beautiful, and worlds better than "Lily."
I like it. It’s simple, yet kinda pretty. One thing I don’t like is that it reminds me of the word callous.
It's so simple, yet pretty.
Not really my thing. I'd choose Lily over this name.
The name was invented in 1854 for the genus name of the Northern hemisphere Calla, or marsh arum (it's related to the arums, but is not an arum). Unfortunately it has nothing to do with Greek κάλλος (goodness, beauty), but is instead derived from καλλαια (cockscomb) from the resemblance of the berry cluster in texture and color. The Greek word seems derived from Latin gallus, rooster, and doesn't seem to be native.
Calla sounds very modern. It has the meaning of beauty... derived from a flower. I love the softness and cuteness the aura of Calla provides.
Princess Calla was a major supporting character on Disney's Adventures of the Gummi Bears, a 1980s-1990s series.
I think this is a very beautiful name, just like its meaning and namesake.

The name Calla was given to 139 girls born in the US in 2015.
This is gorgeous, yet simple, and I appreciate that in a name. I will encourage this over "Kayla" any day of the week.
It's cool that there's a forum for this. There are so many interesting comments! I gotta say I love how people have really made an effort to distinguish the pronunciation. I love when people say my name correctly! Even when they don't, I don't mind too much unless they say it like "Carla" mainly because it sounds like Caula like cauliflower, which sounds strange. Also my name name is like a combination listed above but backwards, it's Calla Marie ^_^ I'm very happy with my name, it was my great grandmother's before me and it feels nice that I can pass the name down.
I never realized there were so many people named Calla! I've always kind of disliked my name because I thought it was odd and you'd never hear it around such a small community where I live. Now that I've seen and been told that my name is beautiful, I feel much better about it. As someone said in an earlier comment, it would be very sad to see the name Calla grow popular and overused, much like Sarah, Chloe, Ashley, etc... I have nothing against those names, it's just many names aren't even original anymore...
This is my name and I love it. I get compliments all the time. And no one has ever called me Carla, lol. It's not even pronounced like Carla. It's like Cal-ifornia with an A at the end. That's the only way people who haven't heard of the flower get it right.
Calla Tor is the main character of Andrea Cremer's Nightshade series. She is one of the Guardians, which are people who can shift into wolves.
Nice name, but don't use it if your last name is Han/hann (:
My name is Calla and it has treated me very well for the last 30 years. I love that it's unique and everyone can always distinguish that it's me without the use of my last name. I've always gotten compliments on my name and everyone has always said it's very fitting of my look and personality. I've thanked my mother many times for choosing such a beautiful and different name. (That being said, I'll be sad if it becomes popular and everyone names their babies Calla!)
The name Calla was given to 120 baby girls born in the US in 2012. I think it's very pretty when pronounced CAL-a, and much more mature sounding and unique than Callie.
Beautiful flower, but yet another name "roont" for me by Stephen King.
I find the name very elegant, maybe a bit on the soft side but with a vibe similar to Sarah, Hanna, Ella, Lilah. It's very underused.
I prefer the variation Cala, and I think an extremely beautiful combination is Cala Rose.
This name makes me think of a girl in 6th grade. She is goth and wears WAY too much makeup. Also reminds me of a cowboy, though I don't know why...
I can't believe people actually use Calla as a real name. As a nickname, sure, it's pretty, but as a legal name - ew.
Too bad this sounds like the word 'callous.'
This name is pretty and quite interesting. It would make a great alternative to Kayla.
I KNOW A CALLA! She's awesome, but when people first say her name, they say Kayla instead. Calla is such a unique and beautiful name.
Lithe, aesthetic, yet modern-sounding.
Pronounced KAH-lah.
Calla is one of the most feminine and beautiful names for a girl. It's amazingly delicate and flowery.
In Spanish, calla (pronounced KEYE-ah) means "street".
Street in Spanish is CALLE. Calla means "shut up".
I vaguely remember reading that calla lilies are supposed to symbolise female genitalia. Yet another reason not to use this unattractive name.
Sounds like "callous".
Man, at first I didn't even know this name existed. I was just sitting in the middle of geometry one day last year, and the name Calla Brady, popped up. So I thought when I looked it up on here maybe it was a cognate of Callie, and I was excited to find that it really did exist. Love the flowery meaning, too.
Oh my. One of the most beautiful names I've ever heard. Almost too perfect for me to imagine on a person (I've never met anyone named this).
Calla is a great name. It's short and simple, but not nickname-y, and pretty, but not too girly. It sounds good on girls and women alike.
Actually, the Calla Lily is neither a true lily, nor a calla. The flower comes from the Zantedeschia genus in the Araceae family.
Just seems like a variant of Carla to me, as it sounds exactly the same, and so loses its glamour somewhat.
Calla and Carla are not pronounced the same at all. Calla is CAL-lah (not CAH-lah) and Carla is CAR-lah.
I watched "Tarzan" the other day and his mother's name was Kala. I like how it sounded so I decided to invent "Calah". I like the name Cayla with a "C" and I just like "Calah" -- they way it is spelled and sounds better! I absolutely adore it. And then I clicked on this name and the Greek meaning is "kallos" (I think) meaning beauty, and I like it even MORE now!
My full name is Calista, and I go by Calla. I adore it. :D
I think it's a great name but it can be better with other names such as Rachel-Calla, Marie-Calla, Calla-Alice, Calla-Narina plus a whole lot more, just be creative.
I love Calla. Simple, sweet, & not overly popular. My only concern would be is that for some, it's a bit hard to say.
This name sounds so romantic to me, makes me think of Calla lillies (My favorite). Calla seems like someone so beautiful you would be afraid to touch her.
