Catarina ou la Fille du bandit is a ballet in three acts and four scenes, with libretto and choreography by Jules Perrot and music by Cesare Pugni. The libretto is based on an incident in the life of the Italian painter Salvator Rosa. The work was first presented by the Ballet of Her Majesty's Theatre on 3 March 1846 in London, England, with Lucile Grahn (as Catarina, leader of the bandits), Louis-François Gosselin (as Salvator Rosa), and Jules Perrot (as the Lieutenant Diavolino).

Years ago, when one of my sons and his wife were expecting their first child, my daughter-in-law asked me for a list of my favorite names. I told her that, for some odd reason, I had always liked the name Catarina - not Cathy, Catherine, Kate, or Katrina but Catarina. They didn't pick that name, but it remained one of my favorite names. Then, a few years ago, I decided to join a DNA project and was able to research my father's family back to 1708. I discovered that our family was in the United States because of the courage of a woman named Catarina. In 1708, Catarina left her home in Holland to go to England and, from there, to the colonies. However, before their ship could sail, her husband, Martinus, passed away and was buried in London. With her five children, this widowed lady went ahead and boarded ship and sailed away for an uncertain future in a land which was mostly wilderness at that time. Three of her children perished on the journey and she arrived in what is now New York with only her son and her daughter. My father's family is descended from her son. After arriving in New York, she eventually remarried, the youngest son of one of her traveling companions. Her friend's husband had also perished during the long voyage, and they had three more children together. After they had been in NY for a while, a new king took over in England, and there was a dispute about the land which the travelers had been promised. While their land was tied up in a legal dispute with the British crown, they received a visit from members of the William Penn family - who invited them all to Pennsylvania - promising that there would be no cloud on the property they were being promised. The little band set out on foot and eventually settled in Pennsylvania. There, the little band established Fort Zeller, which still stands today and is a historical landmark in the state of Pennsylvania. These two widowed ladies were moxie ladies long before it became fashionable for women to be renowned because of their grit and determination! In some documents, the name is spelled Catharina and Katarina. Fort Zeller has a web page which explains the history behind the establishment of the Fort, in case anyone would like to read about it.
