The name Celine is also a French form of the Latin 'caelum' meaning sky or heaven. But it may also be a variant of Selene or Celia.
The name is ancient Greek, from the Greek goddess Selene (pronounced Seleeny in Greek), goddess of the night light, sister of the god Helios (sun in Greek mythology).
Actually, Celine (and Celina) has a different origin from Selena. It is derived from the Roman family name Caelinus, which was itself derived from the Roman family name Caelius (see Celio).
