He holds the most victories ever achieved by a Filipino boxer and is also the only boxer from the Philippines to become world champion in the middleweight division. Ceferino is a variant of CÉFIRO (note the accent over the "e"). "Céfiro" means "zephyr", the Western Wind (or Wind from the West, people don't seem to agree).
Ceferino is pronounced three ways in Spanish: either "sheh-feh-REE-no" (soft "sh" like in Shirley), "theh-feh-REE-no" or "seh-feh-REE-no".It's the same with Céfiro:
SHEH-fee-ro
THEH-fee-ro
SEH-fee-roThe pronunciation depends on whether the "c" is pronounced correctly or not, whether the speaker hisses or lisps. The last pronunciation in both names is the most widespread.
Ceferino is also the Galician form of Zephyrinus.
