AND HE LATER IN THE SAME PASSAGE CALLED HIMSELF πέτρα, πέτρας, ἡ, from Homer down; the Sept. For סֶלַע and צוּר; a rock, ledge, cliff; WHICH ALSO MEANS A MAN LIKE A ROCK. HE IS ALSO CALL A FIRM FOUNDATION 1 CORINTHIANS 3:11For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. ALSO EPHESIANS 2:20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, PROVES THAT JESUS IS THE FOUNDATION OF THE CHURCH AND THE FOUNDATION OF OUR SALVATION. HOW COULD GOD BUILD HIS CHURCH ON A SINNER AND A MAN SO MOVABLE SUCH AS PETER? THIS ROCK IS THE SAME MAN WHO DENIED CHRIST THREE TIMES AND HAD TO BE RESTORED AFTER THE RESURRECTION. JESUS IS THE PETRA AND THE FOUNDATION OF THE CHURCH.
