Comments for CLEMATIS:
In ancient Greek "klema" means "twig" but mainly of the grapevine. The name Clematis possibly derives from the ancient Greek names Klematia (f), Klematios (m).-- Damis 3/8/2005
I like. Very different.-- hana 2/7/2006
Sorry, but this name reminds me of a disease.-- erb816 3/2/2009
I pronounce this name "KLEM-ə-tis" or "KLE-mə-tis" - emphasis on the first syllable, as in Clementine. I prefer it to "klə-MAT-is", the one given, which sounds like the words chlamydia and climactic. "klə-MAH-tis" would be better also, softer and more feminine in my opinion.
The gorgeous Clematis flower symbolizes mental beauty and art. So I imagine a girl named Clematis would be fiercely intelligent and a brilliant, gifted artist.-- Anonymous User 8/26/2009
Sorry, but I don't like this name. It sounds snobbish and makes me think of "chlamydia", as well as "clitoris".-- bananarama 12/19/2009
