I'm a Colombe, male. My father's side carries the surname and were French, my grandfather was the duke so I was told, now I'm on a quest to find out exactly where in France do we come from or represent e.g. duke of?..

Sounds like a short version of the explorer "Columbus". Would NEVER use it (sorry!)

The name is French but it's exclusively feminine. It's particularly traditional in Corsica.

Andria is correct. The name is exclusively feminine in France. It was borne by several Medieval French female saints. It's the French cognate of the Spanish, Paloma.

Above commenter is wrong, it's a mixed/unisex name but very uncommon for boys, Colomb is the masculine form though.
