I have never liked this name. This is the type of name people choose for mousy, wallflower-y, nerdy, or unattractive female characters in TV shows and stories. It doesn't exactly sound like the name of a lively, fun, interesting person. Constance is better.
A famous bearer is Asian-American journalist Connie Chung (born August 20, 1946). She's been part of the cast of many United States news programs and networks, notably as a co-host of the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather from 1993 to 1995. She's also been apart of MSNBC, CNN, '20/20,' and other news networks.
Connie is the name most commonly known of the character, Bobby's on-and-off again girlfriend, on King of the Hill (given name is Kahn Jr. after her father).
Whereas Constance sounds gracious, grownup, and bold, Connie to me sounds childish, small, and unworldly. I've known some very nice girls with this name, but they've not helped any in thinking that this is a name for a weak, helpless little girl.
Actress Connie Britton, well known for her role as Tami Taylor in Friday Night Lights, and now the co-star as country singer Rayna James in a new TV Series, Nashville, has revived and refreshed the name in the public eye.
