I really like this name. I think this name makes a good alternative to DEAN, especially when I imagine that the male character DANE has a twin-sister named JANE. I think that Dane and Jane would go really well for fraternal twins of opposite genders!

Ahaha! I'm Dane. My real name is Felice Nadane which means happy strong woman. Felice means happy and fortunate, Nadane means strong, adventurous. My mom got this Nadane name from a movie. An action movie.

For those that feel the name Dane is boring or too short, certainly understood but alternatively if you love the classic simplicity of the name Jane for a girl this is a wonderful option for a boy - such is the reason I chose this name for my male child. He is 17 and loves his name or so he says when I've asked.

I don't like this name. It sounds rather short and boring, and it makes me think of the irritating Dane Cook, who has really ruined this name.

I guess it's not a bad name. It might be a good idea to name your child after your heritage. Another good thing about it is that it can't lead to discrimination or bullying. But in my opinion, it just sounds kind of plain.

My name is Dane and I am a girl. My mother gave this to me after some character from a book named Princess Dana. She never thought of it as a boy's name until I told her a decade later. I hated the fact that it's a boy's name at first, but when I was 12 I started like it for the same reason.

I have Irish heritage but I will not name my daughter Ireland. That's just my choice. I'm not saying that it's bad to name your son Dane, it's just not my cup of tea.

Well, I'm 3rd generation Danish and I just added this name to my favorites! So there! Nyah! Seriously though, "Éire" is a beautiful name for a girl and means "Ireland" and "Éirinn" means "from Ireland" in Irish, which is spelled, "Erin" in English. So maybe you WOULD consider naming a child of yours after your land of heritage after all, Charlie Rob. There are TONS of Erin's running around, so you can't exactly call it a strange and outrageous thing to do, right?

You are correct. It isn't really strange at all. I find the name plain-sounding, but it would be an excellent name if you have Danish blood or you just like the name. Dane can also can age very well with the person.

Anyone who knows a person of Danish descent knows how much that heritage means to them, huh? There's no better way to brag about it then to name your child Dane. My only complaint is many people can't hear the pronunciation well.

No offense for people who have or like this name, but it doesn't really make sense to have nationalities as given names (except for Scot). You would name your child Spaniard or Russian, would you?

My little brother's name is Dane. We call him 'great Dane' sometimes to tease him, but he hates it. I think his name is really cute, and it fits him well. I keep telling him that when he has kids someday he needs to name a son Halden, which is Scandinavian and means Half-Danish.
