My first name is Dara, and since people seem to be incapable of pronouncing it correctly: It's "dare-uh", like Sara with a D.

I like a lot of names that rhyme with this name, like Tara, Kara, and Lara, and Sara is also decent if overused and dull, but this name sounds a bit wrong. I just don't like the sound. It's ugly and heavy somehow.

Dara Torres is an American swimmer who is a 12 time Olympic medalist. She competed in the 1984, 1988, 1992, 2000 and 2008 Olympics. In 2008, at 41, she was the oldest swimmer to qualify for the US Olympic swim team.

As a native Hebrew speaker, this is not a Hebrew name. It is not in common use in Israel nor does it have any meaning in Hebrew that I can think of. [noted -ed]
