Desideratus or Desiderius of Verdun (French: Désiré de Verdun, also Didier; c. 480 – 554) was Bishop of Verdun in France from 529 to 554. He is venerated as a Catholic saint, with his feast day on 23 August.
This is the name of the protagonist of the fairy tale The Enchanted Canary. Desire is a young nobleman who falls in love with a golden-skinned princess named Zizi. (The original French version includes accent marks, while Andrew Lang's translation omits them.)
Desire (no accent marks) is the name of a queen in Robin Hobb's 'Realm of the Elderlings' series of novels. She has one son with King Shrewd whom she names Regal.
The 'name' Desire (no accent marks) was given to 90 poor little girls born in the US in 2012.
