As a name, I usually hear this pronounced as DEV-in (TV, movies, etc.); however, there is a major street in Chicago called Devon Avenue, and that has always been pronounced di-VAHN.
I am well aware this name's Canon Pronunciation is DeV-in like the Old Guy on 80's TV series portrayed by Edward Mulhare co-starring with David Hasselhoff. However, on The Young & The Restless CBS Day Drama, The character Devon Hamilton is pronounced as Di-Vahn portrayed by Bryton James.
This name is an awesome name but also a nightmare! It is my name (I am female), DeVON. One of my best friends is named Devon, but he pronounces his as Devin. We have a good laugh over it! But seriously, been called Devin for my entire life...
I know a Devon and he pronounces it dev-in instead of dev-on. He tells me that it can be really annoying when he’s called dev-on. I know how he feels because my name is Alicia pronounced ah-lee-sha and it gets mispronounced a lot.
It's DEV-ən How can Devin be a variant? You cannot replace an 'o' with an 'i' or a 'y' and expect it to sound the same- it doesn't make phonetic sense!
It's spelt DEVON and pronounced DEV-UN. Stop bastardising the name of my home county with your "de-vawns" and suchlike! :P
This particular spelling of the name could also be pronounced DEE-vawn, possibly spelled De'von.
