I am not surprised the name DOUGAL is connected with the word DARK. In the early 1970's I became acquainted with a Scottish professional mountain climber named DOUGAL HASTON. He ran the International School of Mountaineering in Leysin Switzerland. Dougal also participated in a number of history making Alpine and Himalayan expeditions. He also climbed in North & South America. He was highly professional & critical of his trade. He was somewhat quiet & reserved. His dark side was mainly aimed at his outlook on living life. It wasn't negative but sure wasn't cheery. Search his name. He was quite the individual.

Dougal is a great name. Ardal O'hanlon played the character Dougal Maguire in Father Ted.
