I love this name! It's not overused, and a good nickname could be Emma or Emmy.
I was searching an online late Tudor and early Stuart English marriage register recently and found Emeline several times. It's prettier than Emmeline imho.
The name Emeline was given to 90 baby girls born in the US in 2012. Emmeline and Emeline are absolutely beautiful names.
I always thought it was spelled "Emmeline", with two "m"! And as it is stated as a French name, the spelling should in fact be "Emmeline" regarding the pronunciation of the name. As far as I know, "Emeline" would look and sound very strange in French.
There's also an entry for the name "Emmeline" on this site, but the origin is stated as being different from this one's. I don't really get it.
My great grandmother's name was Emeline, and she and her family pronounced it "emma line."
Emeline comes from heim lind, which is a German phrase for "peaceful home." The name was brought to the attention of the English world through Normandy in the 11th century.
I adore Emeline - it's such a fresh alternative to Emma and Emily! ♥
A variant on the spelling, Emaline, is the name of a Ben Folds Five song.
