I'm surprised no one has mentioned John Egbert from Homestuck here.
I like the meaning but unless you like your son bullied at school...
The meaning is great, but I don't exactly like the sound/spelling of this name. It just doesn't sound the best.
I don't necessarily like the sound, but I love the meaning!
This should have been Michael Afton's name because the animatronics call him eggs Benedict XD.
Leave the Eg off and just go with bert.
The prolific broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow was born Egbert R. Murrow, before changing it during his sophomore year in college.
Cool meaning behind it.
Oh my god, this is actually a legit name? I assumed it was one of those humorous, made up, creative names for an egg. Like if someone was taking care of an egg for various of reasons, they may call it 'Egbert' or 'eggbert'.
I don't see what's terrible about this name. It's not my favorite, but it's good enough...
I do not think this name is very good. It reminds me of eggs.
This name is also used in The Netherlands, where it has several thousands of bearers. [noted -ed]
Nope. Never. My family call each other Egbert when someone is having a bimbo moment. BIG MISTAKE!
This name was originally pronounced as 'edge-beorkt' (k representing a modern English approximation of the 'ch' sound in Scottish 'loch') but thanks to post-1066 Norman mispronunciation it became Egbert. :P
A bad nickname could be egghead or something like that.
