In Greek Mythology, the dead who had wasted their lives went to Erebus.

In Greek mythology, Erebus is the name of a place AND of a god, which may cause some confusion.

The god Erebus is the god of shadow and darkness.

The PLACE named Erebus is the no-man's-land between the shore of the river Styx and the Asphodel Meadows and is, like bathos said, the place that people go who've wasted their lives.
