Variant form of Florian, which was probably influenced by the related name Florent. Alternatively, this name may have been derived from a contraction of the French adjective florissant meaning "flourishing".In French literature, Floriant is the name of the titular character of the 13th-century Arthurian novel Floriant et Florete, the author of which remains unknown.
