When I hear or read the name Gale I can only think at one person: Gale Hawthorn from the Hunger Games.
Here in Holland, we have a lot of English names the last years, but we never hear the name Gale, in whatever form they write it. That's sad, because I like this name a lot.
Maybe I'll go name my child Gale, if I get a boy one.

This name may also be given in reference to the English word for a strong wind.

Actor Gale Gordon (1906-1995) played Mr. Mooney alongside Lucille Ball on the television series 'The Lucy Show', 'Here's Lucy', and 'Life with Lucy'. Gordon was nearly cast as Fred Mertz in 'I Love Lucy', but couldn't because he was committed to the show 'Our Miss Brooks' with Eve Arden at the time. Later Gordon guest starred in two episodes of 'I Love Lucy' as Ricky's boss Mr. Littlefield. He also played the neighbor annoyed by 'Dennis the Menace'.
