Meaning & History

From the name of 11th-century Islamic philosopher and theologian Al-Ghazali. His name was derived from Arabic غزل (ghazala) meaning "to spin, to whirl", given in reference to his father's occupation as a weaver. Alternately, it may have referred to a village named Ghazalah.
