My name is Ghislain and the pronunciation in French is a soft G pronounced like the French letter J. To help pronounce the first part of the name, clench your teeth together and speak the g with the French letter I which sounds like and English E. Like the actress Zsa Zsa Gabor, but instead of an a put an English e Zse Zse. So add the s to sound Zses and the end is similar to lay. This end is more difficult to explain, since I can't think of any English word that is exactly like it. I might try at another date.

This is my given name. I have met a number of people in Ontario and Quebec with this name. In High School I had two friends with the same name who were nicknamed Jess or Jesse so I inherited the name Jesse by association. I heard that the name Jesse means "gift". I like that, but having found out the meaning of Ghislain, I even prefer this. When I hear my names, I hear "pledge" or "vow" as well as "gift". All in all, I am truly blessed and highly favored.
