Grigori Rasputin was a famous bearer of this name. He was the advisor to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, was a monk/religious man and was rumoured to be able to ease the suffering of the Tsar's son, Alexei, who had haemophilia. However, he was not trusted by other members of the court and was eventually murdered.
