This and Gwenyth are possibly Anglicizations of Gwendydd, a supposed saint and daughter of Brychan. In some Arthurian legends, Gwen(d)dydd is given as the name of Merlin's sister. The name is composed of elements 'gwen' ('white') and 'dydd' ('day'), and carries the literal and figurative meaning 'morning star'.
