For those who think the name seems feminine, I do not have that impression. It's just become trendy for many names with the component "lyn" to be given to girls. It actually reminds me of the band Van Halen, which is certainly not something I think of as being feminine.
Hi everyone! I found out my name "Heilyn" is for boys, but I'm a girl and it's pronounced "Hey-Lean" it's not "Hey-Lyn". Have a nice day.
I don't think people realize how offensive it is to belittle a culture by deciding whether their names belong on a girl or not. You don't get to decide that, and you don't get to change that.
I really like this name. Heilyn has a very pleasant sound and an interesting meaning, and it doesn't sound like it's going to get popular anytime soon. It's disyllabic, simple and mature enough for any guy, even if he wasn't Welsh. But I would say because of pronunciation difficulties, and the existence of people who think that names that end with -lyn MUST be feminine, that if you don't live in Wales, it would be best as a middle name. Now, it really does annoy me when people say that long established male names like Heilyn and Naoise are feminine. You're being completely ignorant of other people's cultures. The world doesn't end with the borders of America, and having names like "Lashay" and "Nevaeh" really doesn't say a lot for your country.
Said HAY-lin (or HYE-lin in South Wales). And I'm so tired of all these people commenting about how lyn/wyn endings don't sound masculine "but would be so pretty on a girl!".
It sounds too feminine in my opinion with the -lyn ending. I love it on a girl though! New, pretty, and different!
