Meaning & History

Derived from Greek ἡνίοχος (hêniochos) meaning "charioteer, driver, one who holds the reins", itself derived in part from the word ἡνία (hênia) "reins, bridle". In Greek mythology this was an epithet of the goddess Hera. It was also the name of several other characters.
