Ignacia Zeballos Taborga (1831 – 1904) was a Bolivian seamstress and grocer who enlisted in the Army during the War of the Pacific. After serving ten months in the regular army, she transferred to the Army Ambulance service, a precursor to the Bolivian Red Cross. She earned the distinction as the "Mother of the Bolivian Soldier" for her care of the wounded and was honored as the Meritorious Heroine of the Homeland. Numerous monuments and awards throughout the country are named in her honor.
Ignacia Reachy (1816–1866) was a Mexican female soldier who fought the French during the War of Intervention. Reachy formed a women's battalion to help defend Guadalajara from the French during the War of Intervention (1861-1866). Soon after, Reachy left Guadalajara to join the Army of the East and many male officers gifted to her military gear and attire because she was considered a "valiant woman patriot". She was given riding boots by Colonel Antonio Rojas, a second lieutenant uniform by Colonel Gonzalez, and was put in the Second Division under the command of Jose Maria Arteaga by Ignacio Zaragoza. On 28 April 1862, Reachy showed her true bravery; Reachy was captured by the French while trying to cover and protect the retreat of Arteaga. Reachy was imprisoned for a year, before escaping then going back to Arteaga for more orders. Reachy was made Commander of the Lancers of Jalisco until she was killed in battle in 1866.
Ignacia del Espíritu Santo luco, also known as "Mother Ignacia" (1663 – 1748) was a Filipino religious sister of the Catholic Church. She was known for her acts of piety and religious poverty and founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Religious of the Virgin Mary, the first native Filipino female congregation with approved pontifical status in what is now the Republic of the Philippines.Mother Ignacia del Espíritu Santo was declared venerable by Pope Benedict XVI on July 6, 2007.
