Ima means mother in Hebrew, pronounced "ee-ma". Imagine naming your daughter "mother"!
Ima, in Spanish speaking countries is short for Imaculada Concepcion (the Immaculate Conception) which is a venerated feast day of the Virgin Mary. This feast celebrates "her" conception without sin, as the perfect vessel which would nurture and protect the infant Jesus in her "unstained" by original sin, womb. Other variants of the name are: Macu, Divina, Divi, Conchine, Concha, Concepcion.
