My name is Inez, I prefer the long I, as when I started school, my mother whose name was also Inez said" Don't forget, your name is Inez". You have to understand that back in the early sixties in small cotton picking in west Texas towns, we wanted to fit in. Being American of Mexican decent and from Texas, I prefer Inez, I have fought for that long I all my life.
My nickname is Neche, and according to my mother and I've also heard from other ladies of her generation, it is common to call women named Inez... Neche. In the Hispanic culture there is a saint attached to each date on the calendar, and on January 21 it is Santa Ynes. That was also my mother's birth date. If there is anyone that can confirm that Neche is a proper nickname for Inez, Ynes, Ynez... I would be interested to have it confirmed. Oh and by the way it is a uni-sex name, there are men named Inez, I have known one Jose Inez, the Inez's I've known were of every race. I love my name one of my great granddaughter's middle names is Inez (after my mother of course).
Inez is a Greek name that means poor, pure, or chaste. Variations include Agnes, Ines, Ynes, and Ynez.
