Plain ugly. Combos of names are rarely any good.

Sorry, but I agree with the above poster. This name doesn't sound attractive at all and it is true that most combination names sound ugly. Note I did not say all combos, just most. It kind of reminds me of someone saying Francis with a mouthful of something or another.

I have to agree with the two above posts. I mostly dislike combos that are used to make the name Jan or Jane cool. Especially Jancis and Janessa.

The earliest record I have of the first name Jancis is in "Precious Bane" by Mary Webb first published in MCMXXIV. Jancis Beguildy is one of the main characters in this Victorian novel. Mary Webb (1881 - 1927) was born in Shropshire.
Although a rare name, 4 girls of the same name attended a school in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, during the 1950's.

The only person I've ever come across with this name is Jancis Robinson, an English wine critic who writes for the Financial Times.

Similar to Janice, which was more widely used, but I prefer it. Janice has always seemed rather flat to me, but Jancis has a sparkle.

Jancis: another ugly name fusion. It sounds rather middle-aged and almost like a man's name.

Please let this name remain rare. It's so ugly! I'm usually wary of two names rammed together to make a new name, because they're rarely any good, and this is no different.

There is a character in Anne McCaffrey's "Dragonriders of Pern" named Jancis.

My name is Jancis, and I'm 17. It was chosen by my Grandfather from my Mother's favourite book (Obviously Precious Bane). I have also recently found out that one meaning for it is "January's Daughter" (Funny because my birthday is the 4th of January), and I actually rather like it. I have never actually met another Jancis to be honest, but I wouldn't like to think of others considering my name "Ugly" and "Middle-aged" :/
