Maybe it's used as a masculine name in other languages. But it's true that in French speaking parts of the world, it is almost solely a feminine name. I don't know why a previous comment was downvoted for saying so. I know the name was quite popular in French-Canada in the 1980s and 1990s. It is pronunced "Jah-neek".
