The name Jenő derives from the Turkish word "ïnaq" and it means counsellor.
Seven Hungarian tribes arrived to Europe in the late nineth century. JENŐ was the name of the sixth tribe and it was also used as a first name. The word JENŐ derived from the ancient Turkish language meaning 'confidant', 'advisor', 'minister'. In the 19th century the Hungarian name 'JENŐ' was mistakenly matched with the German 'EUGEN' and this wrong identification is used to the present. [noted -ed]
According to a Hungarian-born friend of mine who has this name, though it is traditionally identified with Eugene, it is not actually related to it historically.
