Meaning & History

From Chinese 精 (jīng) meaning "essence, spirit" and 卫 (wèi) meaning "guard, protect". This is the name of a legendary bird in Chinese mythology. Originally a goddess named Nüwa, she drowned in the Eastern Sea and was reborn as a bird named Jingwei.
