The origin or root of the word KAUR is not Sanskrit KUMARI. Rather the name KAUR is the Punjabi language pronunciation of the word KUNWAR (Prince) used extensively for princes in North India as well as some ladies in royal families of Rajasthan and Punjab even before Guru Gobind Singh ordained the name for Sikh ladies. It signifies equality of gender and to show that women are no lesser than men.
