Kelsey from Craig of the Creek.
Kelsey is a decent name for a girl, I think it's a bit better than Chelsea. I only met one girl named Kelsey but she spells it like Kelsi and she's pretty nice Although I can't imagine a boy named Kelsey at all, I feel like a boy named Kelsey would just get laughed at all the time.
I've never met anyone named Kelsey, but I can imagine it on a nice person.
Cool meaning!
I really love this name, especially on a girl!
I like it as a unisex name, personally. It sounds very cool and exotic.
I think it's gorgeous. It would be refreshing to see babies being named this today! It's no longer overused!
Kelsey Merritt is a Filipino-American model best known for being the first woman of Filipino descent to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and to appear in the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Very dated!
Nothing much to say. Quite boring, honestly. Actually, really boring name.
I am a 59 year old man and my first name is Kelsey. In 1961 when I was born in Connecticut I did not know nor had I heard of anyone with my name. Of course I never found any personalized items with my name like most kids did. As a young adult I came across 3 other people named Kelsey: Kelcie Banks, an Olympic boxer born in 1965, Kelsey Weems, a professional basketball player born in 1967, and Kelsey Grammer the actor born in 1955 and whose first name is actually Allen. All of us are males. When I graduated high school in 1979, one of my classmates told me if she ever had a daughter she would name her Kelsey. Strange I thought at the time but years later she was true to her word. About 1990 when I was out in public I would frequently hear someone shout "Kelsey!" and we turn around to see who was calling me. Every time I would see a young girl responding to the call. Over the last 20 years I get first time business calls where I'm initially referred to as Ms. Or Mrs. due to the popularity of Kelsey as a girl's name since the 80's. My middle name is Reese and my family and close friends call me such. The same thing is happening with Reese that happened to Kelsey. I don't think these are unisex names anymore but are seen as strictly female.
It’s okay, I personally know one Kelsey but she was far too girly-girl to suit this name. I can’t actually remember but I think she changed her name to Elsie.
It's somewhat pretty.
Not really a fan.
This name reminds me of a bully but it is pretty.
Not that pretty of a name, and it reminds me of a book character I hate who was named Kelsey.
I'm named Kelsey I'm 26, and I agree with most of the people here about the name being misinterpreted as Kelly or Chelsea. I hate when people say my name wrong and it happens more than you think. I actually used to live next to a male named Kelsey. He was younger than me at the time. So yes, there are still males named Kelsey, even though it's not that popular for a male name anymore. Maybe in other countries, but not in the US. I personally like my name, but if I could choose a different one, I probably would.
I love the names Kendra and Kelsey which now seems like a good idea for twin girls.
In 2018, 18 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Kelsey who is registered female with the Social Security Administration. It is the 385th most common female first name for living U.S. citizens. In 2018, 21 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Kelsey who is registered male with the Social Security Administration. It is the 3, 211th most common male first name for living U.S. citizens.
I'm Kelsee, and I'm so glad I was named it. I didn't like my name at one point because I envied others who went to places and could find their names on key chains, etc. I could never get one and I was annoyed they said Kelsey. I never bought one that said Kelsey because I felt it wasn't who I was. I like being called Kels. It's sweet and to the point. I only ask my friends to call me Kels. It seems more endearing than saying the full name. The two e's at the end of my name is a thing passed down in my family. All female names end in ee. Randee, Juliee, Judee, Kelsee, etc. I feel it makes me unique to continue that and if I ever had a girl, would continue that tradition on.
My name is Kelsie, and I like it. I’m 21, growing up more in high school I met about 3 girls with the same name (All spelled differently! Kelsey, Kelsi, Kelsie). I don’t think it’s too common especially compared to names like Emily, Jessica etc. I love when people call me Kels, not sure why some hate it! Overall I’m glad my mom named me Kelsie, she said she saw a physic and the letter combination “sey” is bad luck so that’s why it’s spelled the way it is. My mom also said she pictured a Tom boy when she named me and she was correct!
I do kinda like the name for a boy.
I find it interesting that most Kelseys don't like when people shorten their name to Kels. Personally, only my friends call me Kels and I really like it.
My parents told me that regardless of my gender I was going to be named Kelsey. I like that it's a unisex name and while it is somewhat popular (I've met 4 other Kelsey's in my life and work with one), it's not a name like Mary, Emily, etc that is super overused. The only things I find frustrating about this name is that I get called Chelsey all the time and constantly have to correct people on the spelling.
I prefer Chelsea. This spelling is a little bland. I also don't like Kelcey because it looks weird and like it's pronounced KELL-kee.
My name is Kelsey and I am 21 years old. Growing up in school, there were two other girls in my class with the name, but I was the only one who spelled it with -ey. The other two girls spelled it ending in -ie. I was given this name randomly by my mom... well actually my name was supposed to be Chelsey but then a relative was born a month before me and she was named Chelsey, so I got Kelsey. It makes me feel extremely unimportant seeing as it was a second choice for a name. Now, I rarely run into anyone with the name Kelsey in my daily life (at work, restaurants, etc).
My name is Kelsey and I'm a 28 year old female. My name was apparently uncommon back when I was born but I guess it's become more common over time. I can't say I've ever really hated my name but... I always hated it when people would misspell my name or call me Chelsea. It was extremely annoying. Mostly I find my name kind of meh but plenty of people have told me that it's pretty. It's a name a kid could live with but they'll spend their entire life correcting people on how to spell and say it.
My name is Kelsey .I'm a 22 year old male. At first I hated my name because everyone thought I was a girl before they actually saw or met me. Now I kind of like it. It makes me unique. My parents named me after Kelsey Grammer. But no one in my generation seems to know who that is. Being a male with a mainly female used name has made me grow stronger and tougher skin because of it. I really like it now.
My name is Kelsey and I am a fan of Kelsea Ballerini! Kelsea and Kelsey are the best spellings of the name. Many people just call me Kels for short, which I am not a huge fan of. I know 5 other people named Kelsey. I used to write my name as Kel-C for like a cool code name. I still spell it that way sometimes, but for school I spell it Kelsey. I like the way it sounds. It is so smooth like the names Jenna, Brittany, and Samantha. Names that start with Ma or Mi and have 2 syllables after it sound funky and wrong.
I think the name is becoming more common now which sucks. I want my name to be original but you cant blame me for having a good name, haha.
My name is Kelsey and I quite like it, the only real problem with my name is that there are so many ways of spelling it, but I think I like this way the best. I move about a lot and I went through most of my life not knowing anyone called Kelsey. I moved to Scotland and I have met 5 Kelseys (all girls), but yeah I really like my name.
Childish name.
Well, I didn't see another but my mom liked the name Kelci originally. At the last second, she changed it to Kelcee. I've honestly never met anyone else with my spelling. I like the Kellsey way too though! They're both different!
According to Name Berry, this name also means "island."
A girl name only and nice. It's sort of trendy but a nice unique choice.
My name is Kelsey. I'm 21 now. In elementary school there were 3 Kelsey's in my class, (well one of them was named Kelsea). I have known well over 10 Kelseys in my short life and in high school, there was even another Kelsey Jones. (we were even on the same sports team, along with another Kelsey, my nickname became Kelsey Sophomore). My point being is that in my experience it's an incredibly popular name and I have had Kelsey's with me at work places too. I think the most annoying thing is that everyone calls me Chelsea at first. I hated that my name didn't really have any nicknames growing up. I still don't really like my name. I would have liked something more unique and artistic. Although I don't see my name as "infantile" I don't think it's very pretty or special. My middle name is the same way, Megan. Also, my sister's name was Destiny, so her name was gorgeous and my name was plain Jane.
My name is Kelsey. In primary I was the only Kelsey. In high school there are only two of us named Kelsey. My family and friends shorten my name to kels because it's easy and I don't like it any other way.
A great, fantastic name.
My name is Kelci. I've only met one other person with that spelling.
When I was little, I absolutely despised my name. Everyone was named Kelsey! As I grew up, I grew to like my name, often subconsciously picking out names for characters in stories I had to write that had similar sounds, like Elsa, Belle, Isla, Ailsa, and Everly. I have heard both meanings of the name both of which I seem to fit. Although I still sigh when people have to specify which Kelsey they are talking to, I quite enjoy this name.
I'm 18 and my names Kellsey, there's a couple of Kelsey's/kelseas around my town, but it's still not a very popular name in my opinion. In fact I believe that the name has died down a lot in the last decade at least. People call me Kells and I like it. My parents wanted me to be named Kelsey, but since my brother was 11 when I was born, and had two L's in his name he named me Kellsey with two l's. So that's kind of special to me.
I am a 37 year old female Kelsey, and I was named for my great-grandfather who was born and raised in Ireland in 1886. He was the FIFTH male Kelsey in his family line! My generation were all daughters, so my parents honored him by giving their oldest daughter his name. In family documents from the 1800's, the family believed the name to mean "Brave" or "Warrior" although it didn't translate directly in Irish, Gaelic, Scots or Welsh. My middle name, Leigh, means "Healer" so I'm a "Brave Healer." True enough, as I am a therapist who works with teens with addiction and mental illness, healing minds, and helping them to battle their demons. It suits me, and I love it!
This is like the classic tart name in America today. It doesn't help that every single Kelsey I've met is a total trollop.
Interesting how all the famous bearers born before 1985 were male...I really like this name for a boy. I don't care how common this cutesy, trendy 1990s name was for girls; it would sound at least ten times more interesting and classier on a boy.
My name is Kelsey and I am 8. I like my name, but I wish it meant beautiful goddess.
My name is Kelsey and, personally, I love the name. Sure it's more popular and easily confused with Chelsea, but it's no Emily or Mikaela. I love being called Kels, but I've actually noticed it's hard to make nicknames other than Kels which could be a good thing with kids these days. I also believe the name will transfer well into my adult years. And I like the spelling as is, every other attempt I've seen seems either way too girly or juvenile (Kelsi, Kelsie, or Kelsy). Some even seem to lose the identity that goes along with Kelsey (Kelsea like Chelsea or Kelcie like Macie). As it is spelled I find it more neutral and strong. Don't hesitate to name your daughter or son Kelsey. It's a wonderful name!
Very overused, but pretty in the least. I like it spelled Kelsea.
My friend spells it Kelsi.
A place name from North Kelsey or South Kelsey in Lincolnshire, England.
One Tree Hill star Kelsey Chow bears this name. I can't believe no one mentioned her before me.
My name is Kelsey. My parents picked it out because they thought it was unpopular and Norwegian. Both of which are obviously incorrect. Generally, I detest being named Kelsey. It's dated to the 90s, and I have always been surrounded by other Kelseys at school. I dislike my own name so much, that I quite frequently contemplate going by Elsie or Elsa instead.
My parents named me Kelsey. My mother just liked the name, she thought it was pretty. I love my name, it suits me very well. I seriously hate when people mistake my name for Chelsea. I don't care if you call me Kel or Kels just don't call me Chelsea, it's a completely different name. I've met so many Kelsey's living in Tennessee, I didn't think so many people had the name. I thought I was "one of a kind." I have only come across one meaning and origin for my name, "island of ships" or "victory of ships". I believe, the Celtic/Gaelic meaning. I love my name, much better than the alternative I could have gotten "Betsy." Be proud of your name if you're a fellow KELSEY.
Cute but I really cannot see it on an old woman. But yet again, that's what they probably thought of Betty, Nancy, and Dorothy. So overall I think it's a cute name for a girl.
Kelsey Patterson (1954-2004). An African-American man who was convicted of murder and executed by the state of Texas, despite being mentally ill.His last words before being executed were:"Statement to what. State what. I am not guilty of the charge of capital murder. Steal me and my family's money. My truth will always be my truth. There is no kin and no friend; no fear what you do to me. No kin to you undertaker. Murderer. [Portion of statement omitted due to profanity] Get my money. Give me my rights. Give me my rights. Give me my rights. Give me my life back."
Kelsey A Begaye from Arizona was the 5th President of the Navajo Nation (served 1999-2003), a member of the Democrat party and a Christian pastor. He was elected on a platform of moral values.
My name is Kelsey as well, and I extremely dislike bearing this name. It's way too popular for girls my age (I'm 17), and it has no history at all. It's trendy and new (compared to other names like Elizabeth). I don't even have the option of going by a nickname. Also, are there any records of males being named Kelsey? The only male I've ever heard of is Kelsey Grammar, and Kelsey even isn't his first name. It's his middle, which possibly could have been used to honor someone or a family name.
Stupidest. Name. EVER!
Up to this point in time I have found being named Kelsey as alright and not too common until I entered high school. Now I am indirectly aware of around three other people with the name Kelsey close to my age. While the name is still not overly common, there is one girl named Kelsie that I know in my grade, and it is kind of annoying when classmates say my name and I realize that they are not talking about or to me.
Russian-American producer Peter Douglas and Lisa Marie Schröder have a son Kelsey Demskiy, born 1992.
I love the song by Metro Station! "Whoa ohhh Kelsey". Same as the above poster, because of the song I like the name now; before I dismissed it as a trendy surname-as-first-name. I still see it that way, but I also see the charm in it. Kelsey has softness to it, a sweet, fragile quality. I wouldn't name my daughter Kelsey, but still, this is one of the very few surnamey girl names that I actually don't mind.
My name is Kelsey and I love it. I pronounce it "Kehl-see". I am the only one I know with this name, so any time some one says "Kelsey" around here, I know they are talking about me. :)
As I said before, it's my name. I like it. I think its popularity just depends on where you are in world. Like where I used to live there were like 2 or 3 my age other than me. But where I am now, there's one other and she keeps moving away then coming back, so most of the time, I was the only one.Just beware, in Chemistry last year, every time someone said Calcium I thought they were saying Kelsey.
Kelsey is the name of a song by Metro Station. It's a beautiful song, and it was the song that actually made me fall in love with the name.
Kelsey is my oldest daughter's name. She is 17 now, and I had not heard the name when we chose it. Much to our surprise, it soon became way too popular. Unfortunately, she doesn't really like her name. Mainly because it is too common now, and because people accidentally call her Chelsea and Kelly.
I believe the word Kelsey has a much more honored meaning. Even if it is named after a ship victory, I feel in my heart that it means much more. Like the word was meant to be something more but was used as the defintion as a ship battle instead. A mistake. In my heart god tells me that the word Kelsey, means much more.
Producer Peter Demskiy and Lisa MArie Schröder have a daughter/son Kelsey Demskaya/Demskiy, born 1992.
My name's Kelsey, so I like it more than just the meaning of "an island." My sister, Kelly, named me. Even to this day, I still get called Kelly. When people shorten my name to Kels, I don't like it. And on it sounding like other names, I don't look in the halls to just "Kelsey" anymore. I turn to that, and Chelsea, Kelly, Cassie, and many more. Overall, it's a great name and I loved it while I was growing up. Even though it's becoming more popular, it's still my name and I'm going to keep it because my sister named me.
My name is Kelsey and it's ok, but there's a lot of names that sound the same when someone's yelling the name. Like Kelly, Chelsy, or other Kelseys. I've known about three other Kelsey's.
I don't hate Chelsea, but I've never liked this name, and it just sounds extremely youthful to me, like it starts sounding all infantile once the girl is out of her teens.
Kelsey Ann McCaughey is one of the McCaughey septiplets. She is the third eldest of the seven siblings. Her parents aren't close but she and her brothers and sisters are coming awful close to being famous without being in a movie or being a singer!
I don't have a problem with this name. It's my name but hey, I've never been teased at school for it! I've known a couple of other Kelsey's. (Try having 2 Kelsey's and a Chelsey in one class, lol) But I haven't known too many.
At 23 I'm the oldest Kelsey I've ever encountered. In my baby book my Mom lists my name as Scandinavian. I'm of English descent. I just really like my name because it's unusual. If someone is yelling Kelsey, I KNOW it's me!
I am just finding out that Kelsey is such a popular name. I only know one, but all of my friends know like four. I love this name because it is the name of my best friend in the entire world and will always symbolize strength, biting wit and unconditional compassion in my eyes. Even if it is getting a bit overused, I would name a daughter Kelsey in the blink of an eye for my friend. At the moment, I am seriously considering it as a middle name.
I've known at least three Kelseys (all girls), all of whom were very nice. That being said, I still do not really like this name. It's not very feminine or masculine and is a bit too trendy for my taste.
Well my name is Kelsey, and it is an Irish and Scandanavian name. So yeah. :D
Kelsey is a beautiful name for a girl. I don't think it is one that a person would have troubles growing up with. I don't know of any girls named Kelsey. There isn't any in my 5 boys classes at school.
Kelsey was the name of Wile E. Coyote in the Looney Tune comics.
Kelsey makes me think of a cute little toddler. I really don't think it's a very pretty name. No offense to all the Kelseys out there, and anyway one of my best friends' names is Kelsey.
I love this name! It has a nice ring to it, but I prefer to spell it Kelsea.
This name is cute, but I don't think it works very well for an adult.
I don't know very many people with the name Kelsey. I know of 3 besides myself. It's not that common. If you think it is, think of the names like Jennifer and Emily. It has a nice flow to it. It's sort of funny, it means Island of The Ships, and my middle name means Bitter Sea (Marie) I thought that was ironic, and my parents didn't plan that.
I have seen this name listed as Scandinavian and also Celtic/Gaelic.
I have also seen the name Kelsiana/Kelsianna.
Well my dad is Scottish and he named me after the Great Warrior meaning and he says it's the Gaelic term. I like my name, it is suits me! I was gonna be Margaret and then people would call me Maggie but then my Grandma argued.
This is my name and I'm a 13 year old girl. I like my name. It's not TOO popular but it's a little common. I think the first "Kelsey" was a boy but I don't care. It is mostly for girl's now. It means island or something about a ship. I don't understand that but anyways, yeah.
This is my sister's name and she was named after my Aunt. At the time my parents didn't think it was very popular since it wasn't during my Aunt's time. Oops, now they are everywhere.
I love the name Kelsey but I also agree that it has become a very popular name. My mom also loves it and wanted to use it with an added twist - so she spelled it KELCIE! It's creative and I think that the CIE make it seem more feminine. I would love to find out if there are any other KELCIE'S out there and if it has an origin or if my mom is just way too clever.
My daughter is named Kelsi and she was named after a guy I grew up with who was named Kelsey. I like the warrior meaning. My daughter fits that description to a T!
Actually I think Kelsey comes from Norway or Scandinavia.
My father will be glad to know it is listed as a masculine name and not just a feminine. He tends to 'forget' that one of his initials is a K because he feels uncomfortable with this as his second middle name. I wouldn't use this name for a boy in the modern times where it is comsidered a feminine name.
I prefer the name spelled this way then Kelsie. A nickname for the name could be Kelly or Kel.
Famous bearer: me! lol Nah, I'm kidding. Kelsey is a beautiful name. I love it. However, it is getting way way WAY too popular for my taste. Something else I don't quite like is that people always shorten my name to Kels, which I detest. Those who know me (and wish to live, lol) either call me by my proper name, or they call me Kae. One thing I have noticed is that most people who are named Kelsey had parents who got their inspiration from the tv show L.A. Law. Overall, I love my name. It's still unique and it has a playful yet elegant quality to it.
Famous bearer: Kelsey Grammer (male!)
An alternative female spelling I have seen is Kelsea.
Kelsey actually for the female means female warrior.
I believe that Kelsey is Celtic in origin and both of the disputed meanings are somewhat correct because it means dweller at ship island.
